Some people will inject their politics into everything... Even things you expect to be politics-free they can turn it into some petty battleground for their pride.
Don't pretend you're doing it out of the goodness of your heart and act like everyone's undermining your efforts. If you don't want to be part of it then just go and take your nonsense with you.
